The background to the initiative
Sara Carlsson was diagnosed in autumn 2023 with glioblastoma 4. The operation was carried out with good results at Nya Karolinska in Stockholm, already the day after the tumor was discovered. The subsequent treatment was successful. But! Even if the tumor has been successfully removed, there is a high risk that it will return. A definitive cure is lacking.
All glioblastoma patients deal with their diagnosis differently. Sara has chosen to try to have a hopeful and constructive attitude, and does everything she can to improve her conditions. She exercises a lot and keeps track of her diet to strengthen her immune system and stay strong.
When she came in contact with researchers, she realized that there was actually more she could do – that could also help so many more than herself. Besides the obvious fact that she would like to live a long, healthy life, a common thread in her life has always been that you become stronger together. If you organize yourself, it is easier to reach your goals.
Research teams have limited opportunities to "advertise" themselves. They must focus on the research itself, and the basis for applications for grants. Communicators at, for example, universities can only support with the most basic, because the proportion of time they spend on the work of different researchers must not be unequal.
Sara has worked for a long time as a journalist and communicator, and also has a large network of contacts in the industry. Here she realized the potential. She quickly assembled a large team ready to help highlight and support important glioblastoma research.
We who are behind this website are her family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. As well as Sara herself. We are web editors, photographers, journalists, communicators, researchers, lawyers, illustrators, translators, economists, product owners, and organizational experts. And more!
All texts and illustrations about the research have source references, or are fact-checked by the respective researchers/doctors.
All work with information and communication is done on a voluntary basis.
Leif Eriksson and his team are conducting glioblastoma research which looks very promising. In addition to the fact that it is expected to result in a cure for glioblastoma, it can also lead to a cure for a number of other medical conditions. Therefore, all funds that we collect will go directly to Leif Eriksson's research.
